Try racking the slide all the way on any gun and you'll feel when it hits the frame (typically before the spring is fully compressed) - that would be happening on *every* shot with weak spring. If the spring is weak and the load is hot, the spring will not be able to stop the slide from hitting the frame since it won't be able to absorb all the energy. The role of the spring is to absorb the energy of the slide as it recoils, then release it while pushing the slide back. The important part about recoil springs is WHY weight must be matched to loads. I shot about a hundred rounds of factory ammo through it just the other day. Nice middle ground in my opinion.īe careful nahpungnome, with such suggestions, SkyHawk my rip you a new "Francis" since apparently he's an expert and all of us suggesting a lighter recoil Springs are bunch of ignorant $#%&.ĬGW installed a 12 lbs recoil spring on my SP-01 recently as part of their competition upgrade. 13# wears out a bit fast, 14# lasts a bit longer and isn't too hard on the slide stop. That 18# spring is going to wreck your slide stop, which happens to be one of the weaker points for CZs.

You can also just keep the spring as is and just get used to the smaller grip area for racking. When I first got my SP-01, my wife looked at me funny cuz I couldn't rack it, so don't feel bad. My loads aren't crazy, 5.0gr behind a 124gr bullet, but they're not light either. When I sent my SP-01 into CGW, he suggested 13# and it's perfect and has been for thousands of rounds. Unless you plan on shooting +p rounds you can go down to 13#. SP-01 comes with an 18# spring, this is due to it being a duty pistol that's supposed to handle hotter NATO rounds out of the box. Put a 9lb recoil spring in and shoot +P+. Especially if longevity is of no concern. If these guns are just for giggles and not counted on to stand between life and death, then have at it. Usually with no changes to the ammo, the hammer spring would be lightened for easier DA pull and the recoil spring strengthened to balance the change to the hammer spring. I don't even know if anyone offers 13lb for that gun. I would not go 13lb in that gun for standard loads. You might get away with 1lb lighter recoil and 2lb lighter hammer but I don't think it will make any difference to the person having problem racking the slide. Knocking off weight from the recoil spring and the hammer spring will exacerbate problems unless these changes are made to tune the gun for a specific ammo.

The hammer spring is also a function of the power needed to rack the slide. and will make exactly no difference for the person who has a hard time racking the slide. The stock full size spring is 14lb for 9mm. That is not a good idea, IMO.Īnd you were wrong. Not sure why but I have reduced springs on 3 of my CZs and I don't reload.
